About Mama Woo

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Mama Woo got her start cooking in much more primitive conditions than today. (Really, pre-Korean War Seoul was pretty backwards. We're talking open fires and water pumps. And burying kim chee in the ground is not a myth, I tell you!) Even by Korean standards, Mama Woo is considered a gourmet Korean cook! We know, because we've had "real Korean food" in Korea...no big deal compared to our Mama's, trust us! She also worked at other "gourmet" Korean restaurants in Hawaii before striking out on her own. Mama Woo is now happy to be established in Moiliili, using modern cooking tools and appliances and no longer having to start a fire with matches and tinder every day.

About Us

Mama Woo's BBQ started in 2003 when Mama Woo (Woo Jong Soo--remember in Korea, the family name comes first!!) decided to go into business with her oldest daughter, Kris (you can call her "Un-ni," or big sister). Unfortunately, neither the town of Hawaii Kai nor Kaneohe was enough to contain us! (Actually, we lost our lease. Twice. Oh, well.) We are now happy to be back and better than ever on King St. in Moiliili, next to McCully Bike Shop. Our goal is to provide tasty & authentic Korean food at affordable prices, just like your mama would make...if your mama was Korean...and knew how to cook.

That's right, Mama Woo's BBQ was once "Hawaii Kai BBQ" in Hawaii Kai Towne Center and also was "Mama Woo's" in Windward Mall in Kaneohe.

Come see us in our new location at 2080 South King Street We're always happy to see old friends and make new ones, too.
