About Mama Woo
and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Mama Woo got her start cooking in
much more primitive conditions than today. (Really, pre-Korean War
Seoul was pretty backwards. We're talking open fires and water pumps.
And burying kim chee in the ground is not a myth, I tell you!) Even by
Korean standards, Mama Woo is considered a gourmet Korean cook! We
know, because we've had "real Korean food" in Korea...no big deal
compared to our Mama's, trust us! She also worked at other "gourmet"
Korean restaurants in Hawaii before striking out on her own. Mama Woo
is now happy to be established in Moiliili, using modern cooking tools
and appliances and no longer having to start a fire with matches and
tinder every day.
